LASIK & PRK Corrective Eye Surgery

Laser Vision Correction in Ogden, UT

At the Country Hills Eye Center, our mission is to help you achieve crystal clear vision so you can live your life in full color. As a leading eye doctor serving the Ogden, UT area, we're proud to offer a range of ophthalmology treatments and services, and if you're suffering from refractive errors in your eyes, LASIK laser eye surgery may be able to help. The best part? Because LASIK reshapes the cornea itself, it offers a permanent treatment for many common sight issues.

What Is LASIK?

LASIK is a procedure that uses a medical-grade handheld laser to reshape the cornea, correcting common refractive errors like nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. These refractive errors occur from deformations in the cornea, which improperly bend light as it enters the eye, causing vision to blur. Glasses and contact lenses work by adding another layer of refraction to counteract errors in the cornea itself – but with LASIK, we solve the root of the problem by reshaping the cornea directly. LASIK is a minimally invasive procedure involving the use of a simple, hand-held laser, making it a highly safe and convenient procedure.

Benefits of LASIK

LASIK has grown in popularity in recent years, and with good reason. It's an effective, convenient treatment offering a permanent solution for those suffering from refractive errors, and it doesn't involve carrying around glasses or continually buying contact lenses. Here are just a few of the benefits of LASIK laser eye surgery:

Nearly painless procedure with an average success rate of 95%.
20/20 vision is not guaranteed, but is possible for some patients. Even if they don't achieve 20/20 vision, most patients experience a dramatic increase in vision clarity.
Increasingly cost-effective. LASIK costs an average of $500-$2,500 per eye.

Photorefractive Keratectomy

Another option for corrective laser surgery is Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK). Like LASIK, PRK works by reshaping the cornea using lasers to correct refractive errors. However, unlike LASIK, PRK doesn't just correct corneal problems – it completely removes the top layer of the cornea, allowing it to heal and regrow on its own. We'll place a bandage contact lens on the cornea to protect it as it heals after the surgery, and your cornea will heal and correct itself over the course of the next few days to several months.

Conductive Keratoplasty

Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) uses a different method to correct refractive errors. Instead of medical lasers, CK uses radio waves to apply heat to the warped parts of the cornea, causing the connective collagen to shrink. This shrinkage tightens the cornea and makes it steeper, which sharpens the focus of vision. CK is a non-invasive procedure with nearly immediate results, although complete recovery normally takes a few weeks. However, more patients see results within days of finishing the surgery.
